RECREATIONAL ROAD SAFETY

Before starting to ride, bicycle riders should be familiar with bicycle standards and equipment, legislation for use of shared paths, roads, intersections and footpaths. Here are some handy tips to follow before starting your recreational cycling journey:
  1. Always wear a helmet.
  2. Give your bicycle a quick check before you set out.
  3. Use hand signals when turning or changing lanes.
  4. Wear bright colours and reflective clothing, especially in the early morning, late at night, or on cloudy days.
  5. Fit lights to your bicycle.
  6. Bring identification, in the unlikely event you are injured while riding, so that first responders can use it to notify family and/or friends.
  7. Ride with traffic, not against it.
  8. Bring water to stay hydrated.
  9. Apply sunscreen to protect your skin.
  10. Carry a bicycle roadside repair kit with you.
